Libraries Policy

Purpose

To demonstrate 911±¬ÁÏÍø Polytechnic’s commitment to equitable, sustainable and more virtual library collections, services, resources and spaces in support of teaching and learning needs for students and employees.

Scope

This policy applies to all 911±¬ÁÏÍø students, employees and community partners.

Key definitions

Borrowers/direct borrowers

Students and employees currently registered with 911±¬ÁÏÍø and students and employees participating in the College Libraries Ontario, Heads of Libraries and Learning Resources’ Ontario Colleges Direct Borrowing Agreement.

Collections

Print, electronic, and archival materials relevant to the teaching, learning, research and recreational interests of the 911±¬ÁÏÍø community, including, but not limited to, books, journals, music, videos and subscription databases.

Community partners

Library and partnering individuals, organizations, and associations.

Equitable access

Access for all 911±¬ÁÏÍø students and employees to library resources.

Asynchronous learning materials

Instructional materials that advance core literacies and content creation that students can access on their own time. Examples include tutorials, guides and videos.

  1. 911±¬ÁÏÍø Libraries:
    • collect, maintain, and make accessible materials relevant to borrowers’ teaching, learning, research and recreational interests
    • provide virtual and physical points of interaction and engagement with library employees, services and programs
    • create, deliver and adapt instructional materials and methodologies to support the development of core literacies and competencies
    • provide accessible spaces and opportunities for individual study, collaborative work, engagement activities, exhibits and content creation
